Since I got my driver’s license, I’ve been venturing around Beaver County, searching for the next 10/10 restaurant. So, like most people do, I went on Yelp, and some of the results are shocking.
1. The Standard
At 79 reviews, The Standard stands at 3.3 stars. The service and price of meals are among the highlights of the establishment, with the temperature of the food being a low point in the rating.
“Service was great. Ordered the loaded fries and pleasantly surprised at how fast they came out,” one user wrote. “Unfortunately that was because everything was sitting in the kitchen getting cold waiting to be plated.”
I, personally, am not a fan of The Standard. In my opinion, the menu is limited to typical bar food without any personal twist. If I do a review on The Standard, it won’t be a good one.
2. Bigham Tavern at Bridgewater
Similar to The Standard, in that they both serve bar food and are adjacent to each other, Bigham Tavern’s 29 reviewers gave the establishment 3.5 stars. For the first time so far in this article, the food is the best aspect of the restaurant.
Carissa M. commented, “The waffle was so good I cried.”
On the cons list, many customers complained that the service was terrible. From mean waitresses to hour-long waits when open tables were available, the service tanked Bigham Tavern’s rating.
In my personal experience with the restaurant, I agree that the service has room for improvement, but the food was bad as well. I ordered a grilled cheese, and the cheese had no taste. The sides were boring, and the pretzel sticks had a weird texture. I wouldn’t recommend Bigham Tavern at Bridgewater to anybody.
3. Bridgetown Taphouse
Finally, a place that I have positive things to say about. Bridgetown Taphouse is a staple in Ambridge, and the food, alone, proves it. Rated at a 4.5 by 189 people, customers rave about Bridgetown Taphouse’s friendly service and delicious bar food. The only downside is that the establishment is relatively small, prompting customers to complain about noise levels and table wait times.
Overall, though, the quality of the food and vibe of the restaurant make up for any cons. The menu is relatively large, and worst comes to worst, if you have a picky eater, order them a basket of tater tots and they’ll be sure to be satisfied. Bridgetown Taphouse definitely deserves the rating it received.
