DOES YOUR FAVORITE HALLOWEEN SPECIAL STAND THE TEST OF TIME?

FLIP FEATURE

In this returning annual column, I’ll be looking at four Halloween specials for different cartoons and rating them on a scale from 1-10. You can read last years Halloween Episode here: https://thesirenlppacs.com/5810/grid-features/four-halloween-episodes/

Adventure Time: The Creeps

S3E12

I’m counting this as a Halloween episode, despite nothing in the episode, I’m counting it as a special. This episode is a classic both in Adventure Time and in Halloween Episodes. It follows some of our favorite reoccurring characters as they brave a haunted house, with the gang playing tricks on each other. The ending has a horrifying side note that the house was actually haunted, which is a memory now stored in Finn’s mind vault (a thing that will show up again in the later seasons).

Phineas and Ferb: Druselsteinoween

S4E16

While this episode doesn’t follow the typical format of most P&F episodes, it easily one of my favorites. Memorable scenes and jokes, as well as two banger songs. It’s a great episode and the breakaway from the normal format is a breath of fresh air.

Johnny Test: The Johnny Who Saved Halloween

S6E13

I forgot how many sound effects are in this show. It’s actually unreal and the funniest part of this episode. I don’t think I’ll go back to watching what I watched when I was nine. There’s nothing particularly special about this episode compared to other episodes and, no, Johnny did not save Halloween.

Dead End: Paranormal Park: The Job

S1E1

Like last year, I am also covering the first episode of a spooky cartoon. This year I’m tackling Dead End: Paranormal Park. The show follows some main characters working at a DollyWood-inspired theme park and taking on the mystery of a disappearing performer. They face up against monsters and personal issues. The representation is top notch with one of the main characters actually being transmasc. The style is also very unique and they use the set to their advantage. Overall, I enjoyed the episode and I hope to continue the show. It’s also reasonably spooky, which is always a plus. Can’t wait see what happens next!
