BOOKTOK BOOKS THAT I THOUGHT WERE OVERRATED

Booking It With Emma

Booktok is a big section of tiktok where readers share and talk about their favorite books. I’ve taken almost all my reading suggestions from booktok. Let me tell you which ones were extremely overrated, and if I finished them or not.

  1. The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, a novel by V.E Schwab. This novel is about a girl who made a deal with the devil in which she never ages and never dies. The catch is that everyone she meets forgets about her, until she meets one certain guy. The reason I think this book is overrated at least to me is because it’s very slow, and it gets repetitive after a while. I did not finish this book.
  2. The Song of Achilles, a novel, by Madeline Miller. This book is about Patroclus and his coming of age in Greek times, while slowly falling in love with Achilles. The reason I believe this book is overrated is because it was recommended to me so many times and I genuinely just couldn’t get into it; I did not finish this book.
  3. It Happened One Summer, a novel, by Tessa Bailey. This novel is a rom-com inspired by the show Schitt’s Creek. It’s about a girl, who grew up in Hollywood, who is cut off from her family’s wealth and shipped off to a small Pacific Northwest beach town. The reason this book didn’t really interest me is because the main character was so dumb, and I know that was the point but it just irked me so much that I couldn’t finish the book.

This just serves as a reminder that just because a lot of people like something, that doesn’t mean that you are gonna like it. If you don’t like it, that’s okay. We all have our own taste, and we all have our own rights to our own opinions to things, but that also means not to bash people for their likes!
