MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS: WE NEED MORE

Middle school sports at Lincoln Park is barely a thing. School life is hard enough, so sports are a way to enjoy life.

There is a problem when those sports are not available to every person. Middle schoolers are not permitted to play any high school sports. This may not seem like a problem, but there are very few sports for middle schoolers.

When I spoke to one student for this story, they asked, “There are middle school sports too?” After I listed the middle school sports available, they said, “That is nothing. High schoolers have so many opportunities with sports and clubs, and middle schoolers get the scraps.”

In a recent poll of Lincoln Park middle school students, 87% of them said that they wanted middle school sports or to be involved in high school sports. Even if there are no spots for middle schoolers, create a middle school team.

With the cooperative agreement between Lincoln Park and Western Beaver in place, there is a large possibility to create more middle school sports.
