On May 29th, Jojo Siwa is releasing a remastered version of her old song “Boomerang.” She originally released Boomerang in 2016 when she was only twelve, and from there continued to make songs for younger audiences.
But for the past few years, Siwa has been trying to step away from the childish image in some… interesting ways. If you’ve been on any social media during this time, then I’m sure you’ve seen some of her weird music eras, like Karama, Guilty Pleasure, and her sudden trad wife aesthetic.
All of these eras have happened all within the past two years while she struggled to find herself. Recently, however, Siwa has calmed down and her style and look. Which just so happened to be a tamed down version of glitter and bright colors from when she was a kid.
As much as I dislike Jojo Siwa for many reasons, I’m happy to see her finding out who she is. Which is why this new song, “Imma Come Back,” feels so full circle.
From the few clips she shared on her TikTok, “Imma Come Back” doesn’t sound horrible. It’s nothing new or anything, just a slowed-down version of Boomerang, but it’s the first time in a long time where her voice isn’t filled with autotune or strained to hell.
She’s being her true self. No more unpleasant “bad girl,” or forced traditional look. Simply going back to who she was before.
I’ve seen a few people compare the past two years of her career to when Miley Cyrus was trying to break away from the Disney kid image. Personally, I don’t agree with it, but I can see how others can.
I probably won’t listen to “Imma Come Back” when Siwa does officially release it, but again I’m happy for her and who she has become.
