Are you a fashion lover who also enjoys the occasional movies that have to do with fashion? Is your dream to work for a big print fashion magazine? If you answered yes to any of these, this column is for you.
Today, I’m throwing a bit of a curveball and am going to talk about my expectations for an upcoming movie I just can’t wait for and then give a small review of it. “What is this movie,” you may ask? Well the answer is: The Devil Wears Prada 2.
— EXPECTATIONS —
This movie is coming out on May 1, and I am so excited for it. I watched the first movie with my mom and ended up loving it so much, so I’m going to talk about how I feel it will go.
A little background on the movie: Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) and Andy Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway) reunite as they must navigate the changing media landscape. From what I learned, the plot is centered around Miranda facing industry flux and a reunion with a more mature Andy, as they confront a powerful executive at a luxury brand.
Now, I really feel like this will be a good movie, mostly because it is expected to hit $95M – $105M on opening night. I’m expecting there to be a lot of fashion nostalgia (which I absolutely love seeing) but with a deeper story of Andy, too.
— REVIEW —
Sadly, I couldn’t see this movie opening night, but I did go on Thursday (May 7), and I am happy to report that it was amazing. If you’ve watched the first one, you’ll know how amazing Nigel is as a character. He always has the best advice and is always supporting Andy. Now, I don’t touch on men’s fashion here, but oh my gosh, I loved Nigel’s outfits. His color schemes were so amazing, especially the brown outfit you can see in the trailer.

Andy’s outfits were just phenomenal. A lot of the time, we see her in a vest outfit or suit, and she looks like she runs a “disruptive” talent agency. The outfits at “Runway” are great, but we really get to see some outfits of Andy doing typically nonwork things, which I really want to take inspiration from. There are scenes of her on a date, a meet-up with her friend, and even a scene of her tumbling down the steps of her apartment while eating a bagel. Even the outfit in this chaotic scene is to die for.
I really recommend watching this movie, especially if you love fashion. The outfits are amazing. I honestly wish I had Andy’s whole closet.
