P.S., Yes I got the original idea from TikTok, but since my phone IS actually in the yondr pouch right now I can’t really find the creator, so I just found the same recipe on google.
Anyone who reads my column knows I love cheesecake. It’s the perfect thing to balance a dessert out or to add more. I saw this recipe while doom-scrolling on TikTok and decided this would be a great new recipe to try, even though I’ve never had a churro before. (So I made sure I had my dad and sister try it to make sure it hit the churro spot because they have had them before.)
The recipe I’m looking at is from Celebrating Sweets by Allison Mattina. Here’s what you’ll need to make this extraordinary dessert:
- Two 8-oz packages refrigerated crescent roll dough or sheets
- 16 oz full fat cream cheese, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
- Cinnamon sugar (a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, measured with your heart.)
Basically, you grease a baking pan so it doesn’t stick, and you lay out the crescent roll dough flat. Make sure to press the breaks in the dough together so the bars don’t fall apart. Then you add the cheesecake mixture (the creamcheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla mixed together) on top of that. Then you layer the second can of dough the same way but on top of the cheesecake mixture. You pour the heated butter on top of that and sprinkle your cinnamon sugar to your heart’s desire. Then bake at 350 degrees for 26 to 30 minutes.
This recipe was actually a lot easier to execute than I expected, and it was actually pretty enjoyable now that I have a KitchenAid to do all of the mixing for me. I had my dad and my sister try it at the very end of Thanksgiving break and they loved it! Especially straight out of the oven its so warm and cozy, its the perfect dessert for any churro-lover out there.
