Earlier this week, my mom and I watched this Christmas movie about a bakery, which was, per usual cringey. But it just inspired me to get to work on testing my sugar cookie skills before the season is fully upon us. Lets just say, I need someone to help me because the sugar cookies that I made were absolutely pathetic.
I followed the measurements on a random recipe, and then I kind of just freestyled it from there. I know I was meant to chill it, but I’m a busy girl. I don’t have time to let it sit for an hour, right? Well, maybe I should have taken that time because, at room temperature, the dough was crumbly and hard to work with. I rolled it out with little-to-no care, which resulted in some being thicker and some genuinely looking like flat Pringles.
I think I need to start reconsidering if I’m actually good at baking, because even the icing didn’t turn out right. I was making it, and while I was mixing it with my new Kitchen Aid, my dumb self decided that it was too thick. So I added more milk, and it caused it to be runny and messy. So not only were these cookies thin, thick, and dull, but also sweet and ugly.
Personally, I didn’t like them. They tasted like those nasty stale crackers they hand out for communion every month at church, if you know what I mean. But my dad (who basically likes everything I make) and my friend (who doesn’t even like sugar cookies) didn’t hate them, so I guess that counts for something.
The moral of the story is this: follow the recipe.
