Alright Feasters, I’ve kept you waiting for a while. The time has finally come for me to share another restaurant review with you all! Let’s get into it.
Hailing from Beaver Falls, La Petite Cafe is a quaint building with a baby blue exterior and an old fashioned LED open/closed sign. If you’re a fan of the show Gilmore Girls, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see that this restaurant fits the Stars Hollow aesthetic to a tee. Like Luke’s diner, the cafe looks a bit outdated on the outside due to the old wood it’s constructed out of, but it’s truly a hidden gem with delicious food.
The inside is completely different than the outside with a clean, modern atmosphere. The walls display a beautiful illustration of a city, and plants are smartly placed in corners to maintain an organic vibe. They also decorate for holidays, as they currently have a space dedicated to various rustic Christmas decorations. To top it all off, the bakery solidifies the serene ambiance by playing cozy instrumentals in the background.
Despite these cozy elements, size is an obstacle that limits the actual dining space to three tables with up to four chairs. This may pose a challenge on days where the cafe is especially busy, like on weekends.
I have to admit, when I first saw the menu, I was disappointed at how limited it was, especially in the pastry section. However, the quality of the food more than made up for it. I ordered a toasted marshmallow latte and a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant for lunch, and you know I had to order a chocolate croissant and some cronuts to bring home.
I’ve been to France, but La Petite Cafe’s croissants may be the best croissants I’ve ever tasted. Their croissants exceed all standards with their buttery inside and crunchy, flaky outside. Not to mention, they’re huge. My sandwich was especially impressive with this amazing chicken salad that was perfectly seasoned. They didn’t put grapes or nuts in it, either, which I appreciated. The tang of the chicken salad combined with the butteriness of the croissant made for the perfect savory sandwich.
What really blew me away was the presentation of their toasted marshmallow latte: a simple latte topped with a mountain of whipped cream and a chewy, delicious brownie bite. I kid you not, this latte tasted exactly like a toasted marshmallow. The coffee had a smoky taste to it, and the syrup added a sweet kick that made all the difference.
At home, I tried the cronuts and chocolate croissant, and I was just as impressed. The croissant was perfectly baked and had a light, fluffy texture with a delicious chocolate filling. I’ve always loved chocolate croissants, and this one was no exception.
I’ve never eaten a cronut before, so I was pleasantly surprised with the soft, doughy middle and the thin crunchy coating on the outside. The only real flavor was the butter and powdered sugar, but it worked, and I’ll definitely be ordering it again.
Overall, La Petite Bakery and Cafe will receive a 7/10. The quality of the food was superb, but options were limited, and I want to see them make different types of pastries. If you’re in the Beaver Falls area and want a good croissant, stop by!
