Lincoln Park is gearing up for Fall Ball, and according to the majority of students, going with friends, instead of a date, is the best way to savor the night.
Fall Ball will be held on Oct. 17 from five to eight p.m. in Alumni Hall. This year, Fall Ball proposals are more prominent than ever. From comedic signs to gift baskets, people are consistently finding new ways to make their dates feel special. However, as nice as these proposals are to some, many still prefer going to Fall Ball with their friends.

Kayden McConahy, a junior musical theater major hailing from Butler, is going with her boyfriend but said, “I think it’s better to go with friends, because I love talking to people. And I feel, like, if I’m going with my group of friends, I’m less held down than I am with a date.”
Junior theater major Aaron Johnson from Beaver agreed with McConahy, stating, “Definitely [go] with friends so you can, like, have a better time and not be awkward with everybody.”
Some students are completely neutral on the subject, such as freshman musical theater major Jaliyah Watkins from New Castle.
“I think either. I think, like, going there with a date and, like, [then] hanging out with friends towards the end. I don’t know. Both are good.”
Camille Estellon, a junior media major from South Fayette, shared a similar opinion, stating that the debate depends on the situation.
“I’d say a date, if you know that they are good with other people. Like, if you’re going to bring somebody who’s super shy and not willing to meet your friends or hang out and being able to go run around with you, there’s a problem, and then I would just go with friends,” said Estellon.
“But if you know that your partner or date is super good with people, [then] you feel like you can have the best of both worlds with being with them, and then also being able to hang out with your friends.”
A few students disagreed with the majority, and said dates were the best way to attend Fall Ball.
“Date! 100% a date,” said sophomore media major Braxton Molinero from McMurry. “My reasoning would be because it’s just way more interesting. Friends usually want to do their own thing or mess around or eat. Whenever you’ve got a date, you’ve got somebody to dance with. You’ve got somebody to put your attention to.”
Despite differing opinions on whether going with dates or friends is better, one thing all students can agree on is how excited they are for the dancing and the food.

“Definitely dancing and eating. I’m excited to be able to eat,” Johnson said when asked what he was most excited about.
