It’s official, the new Bruster’s in Bridgewater is open as of Sept. 16, and it’s already the talk of the town!
I, of course, had to go on opening day, and have gone twice ever since. Honestly, it’s pretty irresistible. Compared to the old Bruster’s site, the new building is huge. Glass windows cover the walls, so customers can watch the workers make their ice cream, and get an inside scoop (“Scoop,” get it?) into how they make certain orders. On the downside, workers can be easily distracted by people at the windows. Thankfully, the staff is top-notch, and are always focused on their work.
The color scheme is vibrant and catches customers’ eyes when they’re driving past the building, encouraging most to stop by and order some ice cream. No matter where you look, you’ll never miss the bright red of the Bruster’s logo. There’s also more seating, and room for kids to run around in the new lot.
While these are all great additions, there is one that really steals the show: a drive-through. It’s very rare for an ice cream shop to have a drive-through, but Bruster’s defied all odds, and included one in the new design. The drive-through offers all of the same menu options as the regular window, even sundaes. It’s the perfect option if you want a quick treat without having to get out of the car. However, there’s only one window, so the line goes super slow.
Menu-wise, nothing has changed with the new building. The same flavors everyone loves are still available, and at your fingertips. I am disappointed to report, however, that the Heyward Blitz sundae is officially out of season, along with the Cam’s Cookie Creation ice cream. Meanwhile, the ice cream flavor was only released for a few weeks before being discontinued. In my opinion, ice cream flavors are never seasonal.
Overall, I have to give the new Bruster’s a 7/10, due to the long lines and lack of ordering windows. While upgrades can be great, you have to be able to keep up with them, and provide sufficient care to customers.
