So far I haven’t reached a book that I genuinely didn’t like, and any time I do a column like this it’s always ‘buy’ and never ‘burn.’ And I think it’s time to put some titles out there. PSA: This is no hate to anyone or any author, it’s just opinion!!!
- I was a little surprised when I saw that when I searched the internet for readers ‘worst books’ to see the Twilight Saga on multiple different websites. I’ve read a couple of them, and I would agree with these sources that it’s a little cliche and cringey sometimes. But I think this is one of the books that just worked better as movies.
- Another title I was surprised at was A Court of Thorns and Roses, which was mentioned only a little less on these lists than the previous book. I actually enjoyed these books because the characters seemed pretty dynamic and interesting but the internet felt different. Other people described it as melodramatic or cliche, which is a word I feel we’ll see a lot in the search for the worst books on the internet.
- I haven’t read this one but the third title that was recurring was Fifty Shades of Gray. According to most of the readers, there were multiple plot inconsistencies, and overly explicit content for no reason.
- Powerless, is one I’ve heard many harsh ratings of. Honestly I read it, and I don’t think it was very good. There wasn’t good chemistry between the love interests , and it seemed sort of like a rip off of The Hunger Games. Also the main character is a little irritating a quirky and sometimes it gets annoying, it’s a little hard to enjoy a book with a weird MC.
- This one is something I’ve just observed by myself, and it’s not just one singular book, It’s an author. On the internet, thousands of people are caught offended by Colleen Hoover’s books. In her books she romanticizes rape, and she writes characters that made an inappropriate comment on their own newborns genitals, which I find personally disturbing. Not to mention that the new movie that was out a couple months ago, It Ends With Us, was a popular(mostly controversial) book. The biggest problem with this was the casting for the movie, because the main character was played by Blake Lively. She was already a problem because she was visibly and physically older than her costar, who was meant to be the older one. But to add onto that, she’s rather insensitive with the topic of SA, which is very unfitting because the movie and book consists a lot of it.
