Are you the type to flip through your new book, glancing over a couple lines, trying to find something to intrigue you so you have something to look forward to? Well I do, a lot. I did with this book, and I only slightly grasped the heartbreak in this book. The prequel to this book already damaged me enough that when I had to wait for this one to come out, I was making up my own endings in my head to quench the thirst of this world Stephanie Garber created because I loved it so much.
Evangeline, the fox, the one who was destined to be killed by her archer. Jacks, the archer, a deity whose kiss kills anyone who dares to fall under his charisma spell. Except for one, the one who could never love him, and that one was not Evangeline. The one who would cry blood for his love. The one who would sell his heart to protect her.
I have read so many books in my life, and I’ve cried over some like a baby. But I’m afraid, I don’t think anything will ever compare to this book. I didn’t even cry over this one, I just sat in awe. It’s the third of a series by Stephanie Garber. Garber must have some evil inside of her because this book is so amazingly hopeless that it broke even my weathered heart. Like I said before, if you read my review of Caraval, also by Stephanie Garber, she’s amazing at creating complex characters. They make you mad, make you cry, make you want to give them a hug, anything you could feel about a person in real life, only more intense. I finished reading this in class and I had to compose myself from going crazy and ranting to a random person next to me.
Not only does this book make you love the characters, but it also has the ability to make you hate a character with a burning passion for getting in the way of this hopeless love. Like Apollo, a prince, who manipulates, plots and tries to kill Jacks, tries to kill Evangeline because of jealousy, and lies to all of his subjects. I would say more, but to spare any young readers who might be seeing this, I’ll spare you.
Genuinely, this series is one of the best Romance/Fantasy that I’ve ever read in my almost 16 years of life. If you asked me, I would say this book is no doubt a buy. But if you want to save yourself some heartbreak, I guess you don’t have to read it. Then you’ll miss out on the sweet aftermath that makes your heart all warm and fuzzy. In my books, A Curse for True Love is most definitely a “buy in three different fonts” kind of story.
