Today’s game under review is Unpacking.
After its release on November 2, 2021, Unpacking has gotten nothing but glowing reviews. From what I’ve seen, of course.
The game’s description on Steam is as follows:
“Unpacking is a zen puzzle game about the familiar experience of pulling possessions out of boxes and fitting them into a new home. Part block-fitting puzzle, part home decoration, you are invited to create a satisfying living space while learning clues about the life you’re unpacking.”
When I first downloaded the game after it came out, I had no idea that it was a puzzle game. If I’m being honest, I didn’t read the description. I got confused and deleted it, only to download it again about a year later.
Let me tell you, I’m so glad that I did. Unpacking quickly became one of my all-time favorite games. I’ve replayed it so many times over the years that I’ve had it, and every time I’m left just as fulfilled as when I played it for the first time.
The story is relatively easy to follow if you do more than just put away the things in the boxes. There are items around the various rooms to tell you what’s going on and where the main character has moved into, and, in some scenarios, they’ll tell you why.
I’m also a sucker for both puzzle games and sorting games, so maybe that’s why I love this game so much. The music is also fantastic and a perfect mood setter for whichever place you’re unpacking.
My only issue with the game is that there isn’t more to do. After you finish all of the achievements, there isn’t much to do but just keep replaying the game.
That’s all for today, folks. Thanks for logging on, but now I gotta log off.
Bye!
