We are a few months into 2025, but the excitement of new horror movies is higher than ever. Two of these movies are part of established franchises with loved characters. These horror movies will premiere in the following months:
Clown in a Cornfield
Release date: May 9, 2025
Clown in a Cornfield is based off of a trilogy of books by Adam Cesare. The title of the movie is self explanatory. The horror antagonist is a clown. The trailer isn’t too exciting because it looks like a stereotypical slasher film, but I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. A group of teenagers are hunted down by a generic clown. However, I don’t think the movie will be bad, and I wouldn’t mind watching it in theaters. There was a part in the trailer that I thought was funny, too. Two girls were trying to call for help on a rotary phone but didn’t know how to use it. Overall, I’m not impressed, but it doesn’t look disappointing.
28 Years Later
Release date: June 20, 2025
This apocalyptic movie is the third film in the trilogy with 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. It follows a group of survivors almost three decades after a rage virus escaped from a biological weapons territory. In the trailer, the background audio was incredibly suspenseful. Personally, I haven’t seen the first two movies yet, but after watching the trailer, I am tempted to see it myself. Out of all of the upcoming horror movie trailers, this one seems to receive the most positive attention from horror fans.
M3GAN 2.0
Release date: June 27, 2025
M3GAN 2.0 will be a sequel to the 2022 film M3GAN. The trailer is packed with comedy, and fans point out that the movie seems to have evolved into an action film rather than sticking to the horror genre. Nonetheless, it looks sillier than the trailer for the first movie. Honestly, I haven’t seen the first movie because it looks immensely stupid, but I think that’s why it may be easy to laugh at.
All in all, I’m looking forward to the upcoming horror films this year.
