It was a gray Saturday morning when my mom and I decided to go to Generoasta for brunch after our routine blood tests. The nurses didn’t give me a cookie, but Generoasta gave me a delicious iced coffee instead.
Located in Warrendale, PA, Generoasta is a rustic cafe/eatery that specializes in breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Their menu is large with a wide variety of options for any and all times of day. One thing I especially love about the place are their flowers. They plant new beds regularly and never leave out old, wilted ones. Generoasta also hosts many events, such as open mics! For my music people reading, I highly suggest taking a trip down.
The staff is great. They never stop working, and our food only took about 10 minutes to prepare. Keep in mind that their food is homemade unlike the microwaved lasagna that takes an hour to prepare at Olive Garden. With the productive staff and the cozy, up-kept dining room, there’s no way I can give this section less than a 10/10.
The food, on the other hand, was good but could’ve been better. I ordered the Fat Man iced latte, which was delicious. I love how they named this drink after the comedy skit Chris Farley performed in the movie Tommy Boy (check it out on Youtube if you haven’t seen it). This drink consists of chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, hazelnut, and, obviously, coffee. It was bittersweet but in a good way. The carmel, hazelnut, and chocolate weren’t overpowering and balanced out the coffee, as it can be strong on its own. Overall, the latte was refreshing, even if it caused me severe heartburn.
For my main course, I ordered their Bagel Sandwich, which had two eggs, a plain bagel, cheese, and ham (these toppings are interchangable; these were just my picks). The bagel was chewy and had a nice flavor. The eggs were decent, but they were a bit overcooked in certain places. Thankfully, the ham and cheddar made up for it, though, and mostly covered the burnt parts. The ham was one of my favorite parts, actually. It was thickly sliced and was freshly cut. Ham can be very salty, but this one was more sweet than anything. Overall, I enjoyed the sandwich and would definitely order it again. In the food category, Generoasta gets an 8/10 from me.
As a whole, Generoasta is a wonderful eatery that I’d recommend to anyone. With such a wide variety of food, it’s impossible not to find something that you’d enjoy. This eatery has what America has always longed for: speed, quality, and a booth set up just for you!
