Did you know that we’ll have a longer Easter break next year, rather than a longer Thanksgiving break? This year, it was the other way around. Lincoln Park students have expressed favorable views on this specific change when comparing it to this year’s calendar.
Finn Elder, a sophomore media major from Mars, said, “I’d say I prefer a longer Easter break because around the Fall and the Winter time; we get a lot of school days off. So, I feel like having more of a spring break balances it out.”

Going off of that, Luke Rotellini, a junior music major from Kennedy Township, explained, “The sun’s coming out, it’s better to hang out with friends, like, at the park or in the forest. It’s just way nicer to do that.”

A fair portion of the students believe that there are more than enough days off during the chillier seasons. Trinity Will, a senior media major from Aliquippa, affirmed, “I’m not f*cking with this spring break right now ‘cause, like, Christmas was long. Christmas was real long because of all the asynchronous days, so I feel like we could’ve just had a longer spring break.”

Mr. Poling, LPPACS Chief School Administrator, explained that creating the school calendar isn’t difficult, but people need to realize that too many days off means starting school earlier. He’s open to taking recommendations from anyone at any time. “If the students want to do a calendar; they’re more than welcome to do that calendar.”
Students, and even the administration, have reported enjoying asynchronous days. Mr. Poling confirmed, “We can get a tremendous amount of work done on an asynchronous day. It really helps our school function.”
Art schools are expensive overall, so spending a few days online every once in a while can be cost effective. Lincoln Park must hire more teachers for the majoring classes that other schools don’t have to worry about. Mr. Poling pointed out, “We offer all these arts. It costs money to hire teachers that teach those classes, but we gotta be different, so . . .”
Additionally, Hamari Pope, a media major from Aliquippa, stated, “I love asynchronous days. I think we should do them all the time because it gives you time to do your work on your own time. You can do all your work early, and then just have the rest of the day to do what you want.”
In general, students don’t have anything specific to add onto the calendar. However, Camille Estellon, a media major from South Fayette, asserted, “Mental health is obviously very important and being in school, like, full time constantly is very draining for a person. So, I think that having more holidays off, or, like, having that one day a month that– we can even just do asynchronous, just we don’t have to be present in school, [that] would be good.”

All in all, the student body and faculty agree that asynchronous days are helpful and work well. Many students even believe that there should be more in-service days, too. “I think I’m more effective whenever I have more asynchronous days,” said Will, “It’s a day not in school, and I can just do my work at home.
