I’m not typically a fan of bagels, especially if they’re burnt and have barely any cream cheese inside. However, there’s one place whose bagels will always hold a special place in my foodie heart.
Beaver Bagel Co. quite literally has some of the best bagel sandwiches I’ve ever tasted and is one of the cutest places in Beaver County. Their property is small, which is an inconvenience when ordering/waiting for your food and finding seating, but the charming, fairytale-esque aesthetic is absolutely stunning and perfectly compliments their whimsical bagels. You know how I love murals, so I was especially excited when I was able to sit directly next to one of a garden with giant strawberries and tall flowers (it makes for good photo ops). They even added fake turf and a pathway to the actual ordering area. If you’ve ever watched Gilmore Girls, you’ll understand when I say that this place reminded me of Stars Hollow with the decorative fairy lights dancing above customers’ heads.
I always love the staff at Beaver Bagel Co. It’s almost entirely run by females, which I personally love because it promotes feminism and women in the workplace, and they’re always moving. It never takes long to get your food, as the workers never seem to fall behind the rush of orders. The inside is tight with no seating, so it can be difficult to really form a line for the register. There are some really cute features inside, though, such as their fridge layered with stickers, their pastry case, and their merch section, which has an assortment of sweatshirts, hats, and other apparel with their name brand. The overall atmosphere/staff is great, but because of the outdoor exclusive seating and small interior, I’ll have to give it a 7/10. It’s important to note that there is seating available at the market next door, which is their sister location, but I’ve never been there and, therefore, can’t include it in my review.
Moving on to the food, there are a ton of options. Whether you’re a sweet or savory kind of person, there’s something for you. My personal favorite, which I will be reviewing here, is their Strawberry Nutella bagel sandwich. The description on their website says it’s a “Cinnamon crunch bagel, Nutella, strawberry cream cheese, [and] fresh strawberries.” This combination is literally everything I’ve ever dreamt of. The bagel part of the sandwich is just a plain bagel with these cinnamon clumps covering the surface. Honestly, it reminds me more of brown sugar, but either way, they’re delicious. The crunchiness is so satisfying and is exploding with sweet, cinnamony goodness. I wouldn’t expect Nutella and strawberry cream cheese to go together, but they somehow do in this heavenly creation. The additional strawberries on the inside balance out the sugary taste. This bagel was like eating a gourmet chocolate-covered strawberry coated in cinnamon.
For my drink, I ordered the iced honey, cinnamon, and vanilla latte. I don’t like coffee very much, so this drink was perfect for me. There was a lot of caffeine in it, but the blend of flavors covered up the majority of the coffee taste and left just enough to indicate that it was, indeed, coffee. While the cinnamon was the dominant flavor, the honey and vanilla mixed smoothly with it and balanced everything out. The coffee provided a jolt of bitterness at the end of the sip, but it was perfect with the other components.
You can’t go to Beaver Bagel Co. without trying some of their famous, homemade pastries. They vary from day to day, but we ordered the Cookies and Cream cookie, Salted Chocolate Chip cookie, and Irish Soda bread. I’ll start by reviewing my favorite dessert: the Cookies and Cream cookie. Despite it being about twice the size of a regular cookie, you could eat this in one sitting if you allowed yourself to. It was airy, light, and not overly sweet, which can be rare when it comes to Oreo-flavored things. The cookie tasted just like Cookies and Cream ice cream. There were even mini Oreo pieces on the top that crumbled and melted in your mouth.
Now for the Salted Chocolate Chip cookie. If you’re a fan of strange combinations of sweet and salty, this cookie is for you. It’s heavier than the Cookies and Cream cookie and equally as large, so you’d most likely have a more difficult time eating it all at once. The saltiness goes very well with the chewy, chocolate chip dough. I recommend dipping it in milk, though, because the salt can make you thirsty!
The last dessert I tried was the Irish soda bread. I’ve never had Irish soda bread before, despite my vacation to Ireland a few years back, but this bread made a good impression on me. The dough tasted fresh with a moist, chewy inside and a crispy edge. Inside were these sweet little raisin-like things that I believe are called currants. Whatever they were, they were a great addition to the bread. They were like fun little surprises of flavor in contrast to the savory sea of dough. Overall, the food will receive the first 10/10 in this column!
Beaver Bagel Co. is one of my favorite places in Beaver County, maybe even my absolute favorite. Everything there is so fresh and delicious. Their costs are also reasonable, especially if you want a fulfilling breakfast for a relatively low cost. Beaver Bagel Co. will continue to receive my business and earns a 9/10 in total!
