Donni Craig, a junior music major, was interviewed regarding her artistic talent. Today we go over her experience as an artist.
Donni says that she got started as an artist thanks to her mother and art teacher at her home school district. “My old art teacher was about the only teacher I liked at my home district. My mom was also talented in drawing and painting, so she gave me her old pencils and paints and just let me kinda loose with what I could make,” Donni explains.

When it comes to motivation or some reason as to why Donni creates, she says that she makes art as presents for loved ones or decoration for herself. But in general, she primarily does it for fun. She also finds ideas from loved ones, such as things her friends like. She also uses Pinterest and social media to help find inspiration.
“Normally either cartoon-like or I try and be realistic,” Donni says when asked about how she would describe her own art style, “A lot of it depends on what I’m drawing too. I tend to work with calligraphy and graffiti lettering, also.” The calligraphy and graffiti is particularly impressive considering that it’s usually permanent and hard to control.
When it comes to her challenges as an artist, she says she struggles with symmetry. “Like drawing insects like bees or butterflies, trying to make the wings symmetrical is hard for me,” she says. “Drawings of an animal or person from the front facing is also hard to do.”
