What’s up farmers!
Today’s review is going to be about a game that I just have not been able to put down recently. Stardew Valley!
Its official Steam description is as follows:
“You’ve inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?”
Stardew Valley came out on February 26, 2016, for the PC; mid-December 2016 for PlayStation and Xbox; and then on the Switch on October 5, 2017.
You start the game off talking to your grandpa, who’s lying down in bed with a letter in his hand. He tells you to save it for when you really need something to change. So, while working your dead-end job in a big corporation, you finally have enough and open the envelope.
Inside is a letter that pretty much tells you that you have the deed for his old farm in a place called Pelican town. Sounds fun!
So, of course, you immediately pack up and head over to your new home. Because, you know, why not trust that you’ll be happy living as a farmer for the rest of your life?
When you get there, the farm is horribly overgrown, and you know nobody. Fun!
You get some quests to fulfill, ranging from meeting everyone in the town to planting your first crops, and you’re on your way to becoming a true member of Pelican Town.
Contrary to what one might think, the game isn’t just about farming. You can raise livestock, fix the community center, take a deep dive into the mines, or just socialize with the town’s residents.
There’s a heart system that you can use to help tell you how close you are with each resident. There are 10 characters that you can romance known as bachelors. Each one has their own perks and issues that you eventually end up helping them with. For the most part
Depending on how many hearts you have with each character, you can get certain events that tell you more about the people you’re pretty much spending the rest of your life with. There are so many different ones that almost every time you play, you’ll find something new.
There are also secrets of the valley that you can uncover, but I’ll leave those for you to find out on your own.
That’s pretty much it! Having gotten a major update semi-recently, Stardew Valley is better than ever.
Thanks for logging on, but now I’ve gotta log off. Bye!
