Since it’s the new year, I’ve decided to do a little recap of all of the books that I’ve rated this past year. So far, I’ve published a review of The Inheritance games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, Caraval by Stephanie Garber, and Divergent by Veronica Roth. My past reviews have all been good, all of them I have recommended for the readers to buy. So, as a final rating of these books, I’m here to tell you which is my favorite and why. I spent my time going over pros and cons of these amazing works, and let me just say, it’s not easy to pick. So I had to narrow it down.
My top two from this list are Caraval and The Cruel Prince. These two books both had me in a metaphorical chokehold weeks after I finished reading them. Every video I saw about them on TikTok I would like and comment, just to make sure it would stay on my algorithm. But when it comes down to choosing between the two, I have to go with the one with the more developed storyline. The one that mixed multiple stories into one world and filled each character with emotion to their fullest extent. And that book is Caraval.
This book is an absolute piece of art. The story between the two sisters, and how their stories vary can draw anyone in with ease. I fell in love with the characters, and the romances, and the cliffhangers, the mystery, the heartbreak, everything. Not only that, but the author released two books following this, which didn’t disappoint me in any way like most sequels do. Stephanie Garber really does have a way with magic and fantasy, considering she has a whole other book, which also stems from this beautiful, alluring world she built. I have also read the Once Upon a Broken Heart Series, and it is absolutely gut wrenching in every way I needed it to be.
Though all of the other books I recommended for you as a reader to buy, Caraval and the books following really top the cake. I give it 5 stars.
Thank you for reading the past year with me and, maybe, listening to my suggestions. Join me next year for all new books and reviews! With all of the love, Elena Cable.
