Remington Bulloch, an 11th grade Writing and Publishing student, was interviewed on their experience as an artist.
When asked about how they got started, they said “Um, to be honest, I don’t quite remember. It’s just something I’ve been doing since childhood.” Which is a universal statement in the art world.
Another common statement of Remington’s is how they responded to what motivates them and is a statement made oftenly in Outside the Lines. Seeing other peoples art and wishing they could do that, then going out and trying to. “Or even looking at the weird art of monsters with more arms, legs, breasts, and whatnot.” Remington remarks.
“Just comes to me when I watch YouTube. I think it’s because I’m not paying too much attention to it, or trying too hard. It’s like writing, if I try too hard I can’t do it. But when I sit there and I just do it without thinking, I can’t make something.” Remington said when asked about their creative process.
Remington says they’re biggest struggle artistically is being too self critical. “I can’t ever just admire art that I think isn’t good enough even though it is.” Remington says talking about their own art. “Every art piece is a beautiful piece, I just don’t see it that way because I criticize a lot of the art I do. Doesn’t even have to be my drawing, could be my writing as well.”
