The new year has just begun, which means new ideas are emerging. The fashion calendar is filled with new and exciting events, but most look forward to fashion weeks. As we look ahead to the upcoming months, fashion lovers are preparing to see amazing and wonderful pieces shown by popular, and even the newly emerging, designers. The most well known fashion weeks are held in the biggest fashion capitals of the world. These four main fashion weeks are known as the “Big Four” consisting of New York, London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Week.
The foundation began in New York, where the first fashion week we know of took place in 1943. At the time, it was known as Press Week, and was used to promote local American fashion during World War II because it was so difficult to import French and Italian clothing. With that, here are a couple dates to keep in mind if you are someone who is looking forward to these new designs. We will also explore what to most likely expect for the upcoming fashion weeks.
NEW YORK FASHION WEEK – FEBRUARY 6-11TH
The first stop of the “Big Four” fashion weeks is New York. The Fall/Winter collection will be shown on Feb. 6 – 11th. Many will be expecting top designers like Michael Kors, Tom Ford, and Marc Jacobs to be filing the headlines, as well as other emerging designers. Some things to expect from NYFW are bold designs, a mix of streetwear and luxury, and sustainability which uses a lot of eco-friendly materials.
LONDON FASHION WEEK – FEBRUARY 20-24TH
Next up is London’s Fashion Week. Their Fall/Winter collection will be shown on Feb. 20 – 24th. Expect brands like Burberry, Vivienne Westwood, and JW Anderson to showcase astonishing pieces, along with many talented ideas. London Fashion Week will most likely consist of bold and unconventional styles and emerging designers who are ready to make their mark in the fashion industry.
MILAN FASHION WEEK – FEBRUARY 15 – MARCH 3RD
Milan Fashion Week will take place Feb. 15 – March 3rd, and will showcase the Fall/Winter collections. Some of the iconic fashion houses like Gucci, Prada, and Dolce & Gabbana will be present, and showing their designs. You should expect to see timeless elegance, since Milan is known for refined, high-end fashion, and luxury opulence. Designs like dazzling gowns, elegant suits, and the best constructed accessories will be showcased.
PARIS FASHION WEEK- MARCH 3 – 11TH
The last of the “Big Four,” and the biggest, is Paris Fashion Week. Paris is known as the fashion capital of the world. Designers like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Dior will be showing their latest pieces on the runway. Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter collection will take place March 3-11th. As always, Paris will deliver the ultimate mix of sophisticated, drama, and avant-garde designs. Expect to be shown Haute Couture and Cutting-Edge Fashion.
