The Cruel Prince is a Fantasy Romance set mostly in a Fae world. It wasn’t exactly stereotypical, either. The main character, and the heroine, is a female and a human. Not only was she trained by the general of a Fae army (her non–biological father), but she had an unbelievable skill with the blade. I loved this story, so let’s see if this description will draw you in, too.
Jude Duart is a normal child in our typical world. That is, until the ex of her mother is someone she would never expect: a large man with dirty, green skin and sharp teeth like an orc (a beast we later learn to be a redcap). He breaks into their house, filled with hatred for Jude’s mother. Jude’s mother had a life in the Fae world, a life Jude never knew about. The odd–skinned man, Madoc, killed her parents and kidnapped Jude.
Jude’s new life in this Fae world isn’t really a dream. She goes through near unbearable training from her “father.” She also endures bullying from her peer, Cardan. Their personalities clash at first, but their conflict grows into something more.
Jude is probably one of my favorite main characters. I will say that this book is definitely a must buy. Officially, The Cruel Prince is a trilogy, and I’ve read all three. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Holly Black, the author, really created art with these books. If you are a Fantasy/Romance lover, you’re missing out if you haven’t read this book. On the terms of Burn or Buy, if someone says burn, they’re lying.
