BACK TO BACK WPIAL CHAMPIONS

SPORTS WITH FLORENCE

Our Lincoln Park boys are back-to-back WPIAL 4A boys’ champions! In a close-wrung match against the Hampton Talbots at the Petersen Events Center, the Leopards outmatched the Talbots 66-51.

This matchup included several high-radar players from both teams. While our Leopards have the dynamic duo of five-star recruit Meleek Thomas and University of Pittsburgh commit and Midland native Brandin Cummings, the Talbots had the Duo of Lehigh commit Peter Kramer and the towering six-foot-nine Liam Mignogna.

The early stages of the game played out very close and the outcome could have been given to either team. After that the Leopards pulled away, keeping about a 10 point lead for the rest of the game.

The highest lead the Talbots had was a four point lead during the first quarter, but after two three-pointers from Vinnie DePaula and Mikey Crawford; the Leopards didn’t look back.

The anticipated matchup of the night was between Meleek Thomas and Peter Kramer, but the matchup became very one-sided very quickly. Peter Kramer ended the game with just six points, making only three of 17 and 0 of seven from three-point range. Thomas finished with a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Liam Mignogna led the Talbots in points, scoring 20 points and taking in nine rebounds .

Under the roof that will soon be his home court, Brandin Cummings scored 16 points and took home his third WPIAL championship in his high school career.

The Leopards look to play at Canon-McMillan against the Uniontown Raiders on Tuesday, March 12, at 7:00 PM for the second round of the PIAA playoffs.
