SPORTS AT LINCOLN PARK: A RECORD FILLED YEAR

SPORTS WITH FLORENCE

It has been a record-breaking and legendary year for Lincoln Park sports.

After an explosive 20-2 season, our girls’ basketball team is seeking out their first WPIAL championship after great season-long performances by several players. With senior Maddie Syka averaging 18 points per game throughout the season and senior J’La Kizart averaging 17 points per game.

In terms of record books, senior Sarah Scott will be written down down as the first girl in Lincoln Park history to hit 1,000 points. She hit her 1000th point just two weeks ago in a thriller against the Montour Spartans. The girls’ play their first playoff game against the Penn-Trafford Warriors this upcoming Tuesday at Lincoln Park.

On the boys’ side of sports, Midland native Brandin Cummings is coming up on his 2,000th career point. Once he scores just four more points, he’ll be written in the record books as part of the second sibling duo in WPIAL history to both reach 2,000 points. This will also make him the 33rd player in WPIAL history to hit 2,000 points and the second person in Lincoln Park history to reach 2,000. The boys’ will play tonight in a playoff match up against Freeport where fans look forward to this accolade.

Then earlier this year, the Western Beaver Golden Beavers won their first playoff game in 15 years, a team led by several Lincoln Park students due to a co-op with Western Beaver.

Freshman Lincoln Park student Jaivin Peel broke the WPIAL record for most passing yards by a freshman with 2,898 passing yards. He also now holds the passing yard and passing touchdown record at Western Beaver.

Just on the other end of Peel’s passes were Lincoln Park student Dorian McGhee. McGhee was an All-State selection ending the season with 42 receptions, 1199 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns. He’s also made his mark in the record books, now holding nearly every single receiving record at Western Beaver.

Come show out and support your Lincoln Park basketball teams this post-season! The boys play Freeport on February 16, 7 PM at Lincoln Park. The girls play February 20, 7 PM at Lincoln Park against Penn-Trafford.
