I don’t like it. I don’t. Nick and Charlie give me second-hand embarrassment. The writing is shoddy. The acting is OK at best.
I really want to like this show. I really do, but I can’t. I just can’t. There are parts I like. The stuff about mental health. The stuff about homophobia. Having a relationship between Elle and Tao, which isn’t something that I’ve usually been able to see, meaning a trans/cis relationship. The set design and music design are top tier.
I just can’t do it. I struggled through the season. The whole premise was that gay people can have the same cliches as straight people, like kissing in the rain, but we as a society of gays have moves past that. I have seen less cliches and relying on tropes in a 2014 Wattpad One Direction fanfiction, and you know those 12 year old girls were on something.
I want to like this show and I really hope that it gets better in season two (click here: https://thesirenlppacs.com/7156/uncategorized/heartstopper-s2/ ). The hype that was originally surrounding this show doesn’t transfer well onto me and it feels like the only reason it was hyped was because it was gay.

Your article disappoints me. Heartstopper is a wonderful and heartwarming show.
As a gay man approaching 70 years old, this show makes my heart sing to the heavens. The joy I feel is amazing to me. I’ve never been so touched by fiction.
Do you think gay people can’t kiss in the rain, have serious mental health issues, or fall in love?
You can have your opinion, but it certainly doesn’t reflect mine.

I can’t believe you don’t like Heartstopper. It makes my heart sing! It’s a lovely story full of emotions that I wasn’t able to express as a teenager 40 years ago.
