LEOPARDS ON A HOT STREAK
SPORTS WITH FLORENCE
February 6, 2023
The leopards were on a hot streak this season both on the girls’ team, and the boys. With the boys’ leading their conference at an impressive 19-1, they’re looking like a serious PIAA 4A state playoff contender, where last year they fell short to the Fairview Tigers. Their one loss this year came against the 6A Central Catholic Vikings by a score of 54-49. They’re nearing the end of the regular season 10-0 in conference play and will more than likely have a bye week for the first round of playoffs. Star duo Meleek Thomas and Brandin Cummings have been able to lead this team to a top 5 MaxPreps ranking in the state of Pennsylvania and hopefully they can make a similar run to Lincoln Park’s 2018-2019 season, where they ended up winning a state championship.
The lady leopards are third in the 5A girls’ section, sitting at 16-3 with two losses to South Fayette, and one to Trinity. That leaves them at third in their conference and a comfortable playoff spot. Compared to last year where the girls missed the playoffs, the hopes are high for the lady leopards. Their most recent game against the Moon Tigers, they won 50-49 and are looking to continue a streak against the Montour Spartans today at 7:30. With just three regular season games left, Seniors Aizlyn Thompson and Mikayla Newsome are doing their best job being leaders for this leopard team and are hoping to lead them to their first playoff
appearance in nearly a decade.
