READING FOR SCHOOL VS READING FOR FUN

BOOKING IT WITH EMMA

March 27, 2023

Reading for homework and reading for pleasure are two totally different things. Reading for homework can definitely put a damper on my reading for fun.

Sometimes, I do enjoy what we are assigned to read in school, but most of the time, after I’m done reading it, I don’t wanna read the book I chose to read for my own entertainment.

Recently, I’ve been in such a reading slump that after reading for school, I just don’t want to read. I’ve tried three different books this school year, and not one of them have I finished. Right now, I’m reading a new book, The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay, and genuinely think this is a book I’ll be able to finish finally.

Maybe I just haven’t found a book I was truly interested in, but I feel like the more I have to read for school the more I don’t want to read at home.

Yes you learn about what you are working on when you read for school, but what happens when you don’t understand what you just read? Also, even if you reread it and still don’t understand, you’re screwed and don’t know how to answer the questions you’ll be asked the next day, which makes motivation to read for fun even lower.

How does reading for homework affect you wanting to read for pleasure? Let me know in the comments!
