GROUPLOVE IS SO UNDERRATED, AND YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO THEM
MEG'S PLAYLIST
April 12, 2021
Welcome back! Today’s discussion is going to be about the band Grouplove. Now, you probably remember the song “Tongue Tied,” and if you don’t… um hello!? It is one of their most popular songs and was literally on the radio 24/7 back in 2011.
That song was my whole entire tween-hood and my coming years of learning the in’s and out’s of being a teenager. It practically saved me (metaphorically, of course).
As someone who grew up on alt-rock, I’ve always been drawn to more of a modern-day 70’S rock and 2000’s alternative type of sound.
When alt-rock became more popular, I found my favorite scene of music. That scene of music pretty much raised me and created the person I am today. That’s why I’m drawn to artists like Harry Styles, The Beatles, Andrew Bird and The Wrecks.
I’ve always found comfort in that scene of music. Now, you’re wondering, “Meghan, how does that make Grouplove underrated?” Well, as an alt-rock connoisseur, they defined and created most sounds that we know and love today.
All your favorite Tik Tok alt songs are a creation of the industry of many bands and musicians before them that made a pathway for them to create that type of sound they are today.
Songs that we know today were made years ago by someone who took two different sounds and created something new. That’s the beauty of music. It’s not all the same, and it was created many different ways.
Grouplove is so underrated because everyone only knows them for their most popular song when they are so much more. They have created new sounds and songs over the years that it shows their diversity as a band and creative progress.
Their musical progression and chord progression changes with each song. They give many different vibes as well. From being broke in New York City to running through a flower field, they give it all. I feel like when I talk to others about them, they always jump to “Oh, the ‘Tongue Tied’ people.” and that’s all that they are known for.
Yes, that song was a creative masterpiece and made many of our coming of age years so much more fun and dramatic, but if you listen to their newer songs, it gives you the same feeling.
Their newest music still gives you that fun expression and feeling while listening to them.
Moral of the discussion, listen to Grouplove more.
I hope you guys have a great day (or whenever you’re reading this), and I will see you on the next Meg’s Playlist!
