WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT CODEPENDENCY

REAL ADVICE FOR REAL RELATIONSHIPS

November 17, 2020

Codependency is a type of detrimental relationship where one person relies on the other to fulfill all of their emotional needs that their parents or caregivers never did. If you only value other people’s approval, have blurred or no boundaries set, spend all of your energy trying to accommodate someone’s needs and lack trust, self esteem and love for yourself, you may be in a codependent relationship.

The way a codependent relationship works is one person gives up who they are and what they believe in for someone else because they care so deeply or are in need of validation. Most people in codependent relationships don’t realize that their love is unhealthy and one sided. It tends to be the most empathetic and loving people who get caught in codependent relationships.

If you are stuck in a codependent relationship or recognize similar symptoms, I want you to listen to this. Not just skim past it. Not just read it and forget about it after you pick up your phone. I need you to listen. Real love for someone will never make you question whether or not you love yourself. You don’t need to set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm. They can find a blanket. You need to come first.
